Sensory Science Lab (Ages 3–5) – Program Overview
Our Sensory Science Lab sessions are 1.5-hour science-based sensory play experiences designed for children aged 3–5 years and their grown-ups. Led by a qualified early childhood educator in our science lab, each session includes hands-on experiments and playful investigations exploring concepts like acids and bases, forces, air pressure, materials, and cause-and-effect. Parents stay and participate alongside their child, with supervision required as some activities may include small parts.
Session Outlines (1.5 hours each)
5th February – 10:00am
Mix, Bubble & Change (Acids + Bases)
Fizzing reactions, colour-changing potions, and simple chemistry play designed for curious little scientists.
Push, Pull & Move (Forces + Motion)
Explore ramps, rolling experiments, and hands-on force investigations through playful movement-based science.
19th February – 10:00am
Air You Can’t See (Air Pressure + Gases)
Balloons, bubbles, and floating experiments help children discover how air can move and change things.
26th February – 10:00am
Materials & Mixtures (Properties of Matter)
Test, build, and explore solids and liquids through sensory science stations like sink/float and absorption play.
5th March – 10:00am
Autumn Changes (Seasonal Science)
Investigate autumn colours, textures, and movement through sensory science inspired by seasonal change.
12th March – 10:00am
Cosy Creatures & Construction (Engineering + Balance)
Build and test nests and structures while exploring stability, balance, and simple engineering challenges.
19th March – 10:00am
Lucky Little Scientists (St Patrick’s Day Chemistry)
A special themed session packed with bubbling reactions, colour change science, and hands-on “potion” experiments.
Autumn Air & Calm Science (Air + Movement)
A gentle end-of-month session exploring air, floating, and movement through calm, engaging science play.
Eggs, Balance & New Beginnings
A hands-on session exploring balance, protection, materials, and cause-and-effect through egg-themed science investigations (without being overly “Easter themed”). Activities included an egg protection group challenge, rolling/balance experiments, nest engineering, and sink or float testing.
Terms and Conditions
Parents/guardians are required to remain at the event for the duration and actively supervise their children. There will be loose small parts in some play activities, so vigilant supervision is required. Tickets and non-refundable and non-transferrable due to resourcing.
